Creature & Machine
Hi, I’m Lilly, also known as Creature & Machine, a songwriter, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist. I make music that’s somewhere between pop, electronic, and folk, blending organic and synthetic sounds into lush soundscapes and dancey basslines. I want to make music that makes you dance crazily, makes you feel intensely, and makes you think deeply!
Writing music for me is a compulsion - it’s the only way I really know to make sense of the world and my experiences. I love the rich sound world that we live in and am often recording sounds around me, from door handles to birdsong, the rattling of broken glass to the snap of a bottle cap, and incorporating these along with electronic synths and drum patterns into my recordings.
I studied computer science and machine learning and am interested in the relationship between human and machine, and how artificial intelligence is changing creativity. I am also training to teach mindfulness meditation, and mindfulness is a big part of my life that helps me stay grounded and open to creative urges. Themes of human, machine, psychology and philosophy often show up in my work. But mostly, I just like a good pop song!

I am a one woman band and my other band member is my laptop - I’m the Creature and it’s the Machine! With a background in computer science and machine learning, I’ve also spent a lot of time around computers, and I think a lot about the relationship between human and machine, which is reflected in my lyrics. I also tend to combine organic vocals and electronic sounds in my production, so that’s another creature and machine combination.

Yes, and I am always looking to play more live gigs! You can find out more about upcoming gigs and find live videos on my social media channels.
-
I write, record, produce, and mix all of my own music.

My influences are all over the place! As an artist and songwriter, I’m influenced by pop giants like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. My production is heavily influenced by electronic artists who use sound in creative ways, like John Hopkins, Bonobo and Four Tet. Vocally I draw on singers with similar soft yet strong tones, like Agnes Obel and Lana Del Ray. I also draw a lot of inspiration from classical piano music, particularly the compositions of Debussy and Ravel, and modern composers such as Gibran Alcocer and SYML, and from choral vocal harmonies, such as in the work of vocal ensemble VOCES8. If I could emulate any artist, it would be the Italian artist Cosmo, who combines unusual production with pop hooks and poetic lyrics.
Work with me
I’m currently available for work as a producer, songwriter and composer, and for gigs and collaboration as an artist and/or vocalist. I offer recording, songwriting and production packages and can work with artists both from my home studio or from studios around London. If you’d like more information about pricing or availability, please get in touch via the Contact page.

Can you make it a bit less cheesy and less dramatic? I want to sound less pretentious.
